Yahrzeit

Life After Death
by Laura Gilpin

These things I know:
How the living go on living
and how the dead go on living with them
so that in a forest
even a dead tree casts a shadow
and the leaves fall one by one
and the branches break in the wind
and the bark peels off slowly
and the trunk cracks
and the rain seeps in through the cracks
and the trunk falls to the ground
and the moss covers it
and in the spring the rabbits find it
and build their nest
inside the dead tree
so that nothing is wasted in nature
or in love.
Please fill out this form with as much of the below information as you can so that we may remember the yahrtziet (death anniversary) of your loved ones with you. You will receive a letter preceeding the yahrtzheit with a reminder of the upcoming date and opportunities to honor their memory in community. We will read your loved ones' names before the Mourner's Kaddish prayer the Shabbat prior to your loved ones' yahrtzheit.

You are welcome to add names for anyone you remember--family, chosen family, friends, Jewish people, non-Jews.

We will send reminders according to the Hebrew date. If you know the English date and time of death (or if they died before or after sunset) we can calculate the Hebrew date. If you do not know the date, we will send you a reminder according to the English calendar.

You can be in touch with Milan with questions about the form, or Rabbi Ariana with questions about date calculation or yahrtzheit observance.
