Learn about the heroes and villans (usually the same people, honestly) of Torah! Learn about the epic narratives, ethical debates, and foundational stories of the Jewish tradition through art, play, drama, puppetry, storytelling, and song.
Students will engage in a play-based Hebrew curriculum to build reading comprehension and decoding skills. If you would like your child to have 1-1 or 2-1 tutoring, please indicate below and we will connect you with a tutor.
This is a multi-aged classroom by design, students going into 1st grade through 5th grade learn from one another and take turns being the expert.
Taught by Sara Eisenberg, with assistant teacher support.
Vildah Chaya Kiddush Club aka “Wild Animal Kiddush Club”
1st and 3rd Saturday mornings of the month
Come spend time in shul, play pokemon in the hallways, and savor Shabbat together! With the VCKC, students will deepen relationships with each other, the larger community (not just Hebrew school families), and the synagogue itself, learning by being in their bodies and experiencing Judaism (and not just reading about it) to connect.
Activities include: shmoozing over breakfast, building scavenger hunts and youth group style activities (toilet paper Shabbat queen costume making), in-service guided activities primarily focusing on Hebrew learning (here’s the shoresh bet-reish-chaf, find 5 words that share it that mean bless), and moments in the service that bring in children (learning then leading prayers, presenting art.) Volunteers from the congregation spend time with children, allowing parents to be present in services and support children through the self-guided in-service activities for those children that need that support.
Please note: this program is low-supervision. Children will be with safe adults teaching starting at 11, but are welcome to move around the building without a hall monitor. If your child needs more support, your family is responsible for checking in on them and supporting their play.
Tot Shabbat (Birth to kindergarten)
First Shabbat of the month, 11:15-12pm. Community potluck following!
Songs and games to celebrate Shabbat. Children must be accompanied by a grownup for this group led by Naomi Weintraub.
Holiday celebrations
